Friday Night Discussion
|
Friday night we rolled in to the field around 7pm and met up
with Rich (STICKY), DEEPFREEZE and BRIAN who had been there for
hours and had walked the field several times. Since this was our
first time on this dirt, a plan was needed. The night revolved
around speculating on how the field would play out, how our squads
would work etc.

Saturday
|
THUMPER : SAT AM: As the day began, we had a delightful corner
of the swamp and a quirky informal relationship with the neighbors
- the ALIENS Our team was the CLAP, jointly paired against the
MAN and the REDNECKS. While we wanted to play liaison to the C&C
(General BAMBI of Coastal Paintball ), BAMBI quickly appointed
BAMBUSKI (Brad Byrd of SC ROADKILL) as XO. Our hideaway base and
active role in the C&C and a mountain of experience and a
delightful relationship with out neighbors and a decent plan that
integrated the teams with us (and even the Silent Thunder on the
Aliens) overcame our lack of knowledge of how the field would
play. (Special Thanks to the Wild Cards and Lethal Lizards for
their team efforts)
THUMPER : 12:00PM : At game start we moved SQUAD KILO rapidly
to the middle of the field, with tanks to follow, to #8 MUDBONE'S
MOBILE HOME to act as the right side of what we called the BONE
CRUSHER. Our squads ROMEO and WITCHYPOO swept wide around the
swamp to the NAM (what the locals call the VC village) to close
our back door and the cut the field in half. Working w/ the Aliens
(Silent Thunder in particular) we asked they closed the left tape
on the shortest path to the enemy, and together these three nodes
cut the field in half. We also sent a very strong fire team (WILD
CARDS) into the BONE CRUSHER to meet the enemy head on. Having
played at several of Wayne's Worlds Finale Finalies, I was very
familiar with the likely scirmish line that would emerge. I asked
and planned on using our LETHAL LIZARDS team to sweep the swamp
as they wanted to and said they were familiar with it, asking
that their sweep support my troops the NAM.
JOEV : 12:00 pm As the initial bell rang all of Romeo sprinted
(Even Sticky and I) to a woodland position between the area we
called the Bonecrusher and the Nam. Once we were in place reinforcements
from other squads and other teams came streaming in. I would say
that by all most accounts the battle for tactical control of the
field was over in about ten minutes. It was never lost.
THUMPER : 12:05 The first mission is called in for the CLAP to
assist the ALIENS into securing the "MUDBONE"S MOBILE
HOME"located on our side of the BONE CRUSHER (a 300' wide
corridor running the length of the field around 1200' long in
a carefully planted young pine forest with well spaced trees and
lots of small bunkers inner spaced between.) I send the LETHAL
LIZARDS to abort their swamp mission and head straight to HAMBONE'S.
And around 200' our side of HAMBONE'S we clash. The enemy beat
us to HAMBONES and the game was on. As we predicted, the zero
entry fee and BYOP event brought every form of race gun, and it
seemed like a massive speedball tourney game; not my style, but
very predictible. With the exception of the ROGUE WARRIORS, we
expected most of the enemy teams to come straight at us. The ROGUE
WARRIORS we planned on fighting in the swamp, old school style
and sent half of SC ROADKILL to meet them head on.
THUMPER : 12:20 WITCHPOO is just outside the NAM. We push hard
and a friendly tank helps us overwhelm the opposition at #8 -
HAMBONE'S. We secure the area with 200 ALIEN/CLAP players. And
I get message from the silent thunger that our army are had reached
the far tape up past the NAM, cutting the field in half on their
side of the swamp. We controled the field. I get a message from
BAMBUSKI to tell ALIENS to make sure they get a man inside #8
HAMBONES MOBILE HOME (a rusted out old van). I tell the highest
ranking aliens I could find (RICK on SILENT THUNDER) and I tell
a 2 more I don't know that were hanign out near the van.
THUMPER : 12:25 Our mission to assist the ALIENS is signed off
on, and amazingly a REDNECK comes crawling out of the van. The
REDNECKS had the same mission as the ALIENS and got it signed
off. Surrounded by 150 of us, he was in there all by his lonesome.
I think the ALIEN'S mission was buster for not tending to the
details.
THUMPER : 12:30 WITCHPOO finnished their sweep of the swamp and
wanders into a faily secure NAM AO and sets up shop. I hustle
back to base before the mission is called, and I think this one
was the #12 - OTHER BROTHER'S SALVAGE YARD in the BONE CRUSHER.
Our field position made this an easy win.
THUMPER : 12:55 Mission Complete.
THUMPER : 1:00pm The next mission was called in : Take and hold
#7 BUBBA'S MUD TRUCK (in the BONE CRUSHER). By this time we were
famiar with the dirt and our CLAP/ALIEN army was working as a
solid team. And our tanks were on hand and hightly effective in
breaking up the stalled lines of enemy defense. The enemy did
not have their tank game (or anti-tank game) together. Welcome
to scenario ball boys.
THUMPER : 1:25 Mission Complete.
THUMPER : 1:30 MISSION : This mission called on the CLAP to take
a can of purple spray paint and write "NORMA JEAN CAN'T HUNT"
on the side of #8 HAMBONE'S MOBILE HOME. If you are reading this
and have seen it, just remember SC ROADKILL was here :) I even
spelt' it right.
THUMPER : By 3:00 the CLAP was definitely in the groove. All
missions completed. The ALIENS were in the right places but didn't
seem to have front line management we had.
THUMPER : Around 4pm we get a mission to assist the ALIENS in
blowing the MAN's base, and the whole CLAP/ALIEN army marchs on
the MAN. Roadkill splits with ROMEO right and KILO left. 4:15
I get word that ROMEO got a little carried away and accidentally
took the REDNECK base by mistake (sorry Ben), but by that time
the insertion point sitting on top of the MAN's base had thinned
us out pretty good and the ALIEN'S mission to blow it went buster...
but we got our mission signed off 'cause we helped. :)
THUMPER : 4:00 pm Our XO ( BAMBUSKI ) and our general BAMBI got
permission from BILLY and switched roles. BAMBI had a broken foot
and could not be expected to run "General Lead Missions"
and BAMBUSKI wanted to, so Billy said fine and they swapped roles.
THUMPER : 4:30 pm the mission is called in to shoot DALE EARNHART
up at #1 - PIGGLY WIGGLY. I radio out to SQUAD WITCHPOO to secure
the NAM and sweep it out, looking for a picture or something DALE
EARNHART related. In 2 minutes we have it secured and the General
BAMBUSKI of SC ROADKILL is leading the mission (of course GRENDEL
of SC ROADKILL already has the area well under hand). Joe barrel
tags some ref looking guy on a four wheeler, and mission complete.
The ALIENS got credit for this also. We also picked up the General
Led bonus.
THUMPER : 5:00 pm The mission is called in to secure and return
the Walmart letters from #17 - THE DAIRYQUEEN. The mission is
broadcast and as it turned out BRAIN of SC ROADKILL was only 100'
away and the letters were back at base by 5:05. Mission complete.
THUMPER : 5:05 pm STICKY, GRENDEL and I are at our base shooting
the breeze with the ref. BAMBUSKI and BAMBI are is inside and
BAMBI mentions when the next insertion comes she would like a
little more security (as she knows we are gone as the next mission
comes in) I notice a guy in a partial ghillysuit dive for the
ground around 40 feet away, and I yell "down" and every
one dives for cover. The world erupts and GRENDEL gets capped.
STICKY and I dive behined the same cover - two sorry pallets -
one solid and slatted. I pick the ghilly guy off in my first volly
from my Sniper II and Rich is taking lots of heat from our left.
The Ghilly guy called for a medic who apprears out of the swamp.
I manage a head shot on the run. Ghilly dies of his wounds. I
pop over and shot though some camo netting and another guy calls
OUT. Rich pops one with his trusty new SNIPER II, and I tag the
last guy who is laying prone half behind a monster pine with a
beautiful "over the visible horizon" shot to between
his eyes. These guys must have had a mission to blow our base
and low crawled through the swamp. -- And nice instincts Bambi.
You were right on.
I think the refs were impressed. Two guys with pumps spent less
than 30 rounds in one minute and took out 5 guys behind cover
with semis, a medic and the element of suprise. This was the only
attack Saturday on our base. 10 minutes later when GRENDEL returned,
our base ref actually hugged him saying "you guys are amazing".

THUMPER : 5:30 pm The mission is called in to find and return
some prop that damages the environment from the #4 - EARL'S GUN
AND AMMO. GRENDEL of QUAD WITCHYPOO is radioed and already on
scene and spends lots of time looking. Not finding anything obvious
he comes back dragging a refrigerator door! Nice work GRENDEL.
(You know, he really does like carring stuff). Im pretty sure
we got this one signed off.

Saturday Night
|
THUMPER : 6:00PM BAMBI took off to nurse her broken ankle and write
up the game for APG, and DEEP FREEZE of SC ROADKILL took over XO
and BAMBUSKI of SC ROADKILL continued as General. and a general
dinner stand down is called (untill 8:00pm)
THUMPER : OFF FIELD : SC ROADKILL member RICH has plastered the
whole world with PB Junkie stickers and earned himself the nickname
"STICKY" which should stick. Many chuckles were had as
the "well that goes well with SKEETER and TWO STROKES".
The area up by interstate I-95 is pretty bleak for food, but we
rolled in a family restaurant and got a private dining room. We
were all very impressed by BAMBUSKI and his efforts in leading General
Lead missions. BRIAN of SC ROADKILL played liason to the ALIENS
keeping the peace and the pact in place - Also nice work - We cleaned
out their 16 oz ribeyes and left the place undamaged. Sticky, Dead
Eye, Brain, Thumper, Grendel, Matt, Joe in attendence.
DEEPFREEZE : ON FIELD: 8:00 pm - Bambuski continued his roll as
General. DeepFreeze took over as XO, as Bambi stepped down and did
not return to the game due to her broken foot (and lack of chair
to sit on at the base). DeepFreeze assumed base radio C&C and
issued all missions from the beginning of night play until the conclusion
of the scenario. This enabled Bambuski to lead all but three missions
as the general for extra points.
DEEPFREEZE : 8:05 pm - The first mission was dispatched. The majority
of our players had retired for the night with the exception of DeepFreeze,
Bambuski, Brian Odgers, and about five players from other teams.
DEEPFREEZE : 8:30 pm - Archie, Lucas, and Andrew Bickerton returned
to the game and supported missions until about 11:00 pm.
DEEPFREEZE : 8:30 pm: Mission - Bambuski was dispatched as the
general to walk along a route specified in the mission. This route
covered the majority of the field and was to be completed within
30 minutes. This coincided with an insertion, so Bambuski had about
20 CLAP players assisting him. Shortly after they started about
40 enemy players ambushed them. All friendly players were eliminated
in short order with the exception of Bambuski, who dove for cover
and remained hidden until the enemy passed. He continued on alone
and was able to complete the mission.
DEEPFREEZE : "When you are spotlighted at night and are up
against a group of 40 or so players you can expect to take some
extra shots, but it didn't sound like any of these were true bonus
balls. Instead it was just the bad luck of having 20 people all
shoot you once or twice each. For those that don't recall the incident
I am talking of, we had a group of 20 C.L.A.P. players escorting
our general on a walk around the field mission. They ran into 40
opposing players and everyone except our general was eliminated
in short order. Bambuski did a great job and managed to complete
the mission solo. He also scared the crap out of two refs in the
process tapping them on the back and asking if they were his mission
ref while walking through groups of enemy players."
DEEPFREEZE : 9:00 pm: Mission - Brad was dispatched with approximately
five players to assist the Aliens in the defense of their base.
Mission was successful with the base being held for the duration.
DEEPFREEZE : 9:30 pm: Mission - Brian was dispatched to rid "Bill
Dances boat" of all Alien players. On the way to his mission
he stopped by the Alien's base to inform them of our mission. They
had a mission to retrieve a prop from the area and then defend the
boat. Brian worked out a compromise to allow them to retrieve the
prop and then leave allowing both teams to receive points for the
mission. The Alien's were unable to locate the prop so they vacated
the area allowing Brian to complete the mission unassisted.
DEEPFREEZE : 10:30 pm: Mission - Brian and Brad were dispatched
to go fishing at the southeast corner of the swamp and return some
goldfish. They searched the area for about 25 minutes with negative
results. It turned out that the Aliens had already retrieved the
goldfish. We did complete the mission, as the goal was to go fishing.
DEEPFREEZE : 11:00 pm: Mission - Bambuski was dispatched again
to defend the Alien's base. At one point it was getting pretty hairy
and Bambuski radioed for more support. He asked for about four or
five players to help bolster his defenses. Since our base had not
been attacked all night DeepFreeze dispatched all four remaining
defenders to assist Bambuski. At one point DeepFreeze heard enemy
players as close as 30 feet from our base. The attackers turned
the corner and assaulted the Alien's base. This happened several
times during the night when there were no defenders at our base.
I still don't think the attackers knew how close they were to our
base. DeepFreeze just remained quiet and allowed the attackers to
walk by.
DEEPFREEZE : 11:30 pm: Mission - Brian was dispatched to retrieve
the Walmart sign from the Nam. He was unable to locate the sign.
Mission incomplete. This was the first mission of the scenario
that we did not complete.
DEEPFREEZE : 12:00 pm: DeepFreeze, Bambuski, and Brian return to
base for some much needed sleep.

Sunday AM

THUMPER
: BAMBUSKI was voted in Saturday night back of the Knights Inn.
Grendel, Thumper, Joe, Brain and Rich on hand when we voted. Congratulations
Dr. Bambuski and well done. As we arrive at the field 7:15am and
DEEPFREEZE briefs me that we made 6 out of 7 mission complete, 4
general lead (by BAMBUSKI) and 2 solo mission by BRIAN (of SC ROADKILL)
Our base was never even attacked. I let BAMBUSKI continue with his
General Led mission's with DEEPFREEZE running XO and the radio.
We didn't see BAMBI until around 11:50am. I was told she was sleeping,
but later found out she was busy writing up the story for APG and
maintaining off-field relations w/ our Alien allies.
DEEP : 8:00 am: DeepFreeze returns for base C&C and XO duties,
Bambuski is still General. Bambi is still not 100% and remains on
the sidelines for the remainder of the scenario.
THUMPER : 8:00 am: Our base ref radio did not work and it appeared
that the aliens were recieveing a call. I run orver to teh aliens
base and ask them to allow their base ref to issue the mission codes
which I would relay over roadkills radio net. The first one ad B4
which was reported to be already run. They reissue B2 which we have
and run. (The mission coordinate for LowCountry probably screwed
up - which is why we couldnt find the liscences)
DEEP : 8:05 am: Mission - We are to retrieve "hunting licenses"
from (I forget the location). Brain and company are onsite within
two minutes and are unable to locate the props. It would appear
a member of the opposing team must have picked them up prior to
the beginning of the game, as there were no enemy troops or props
there. (Second and last mission not completed for the scenario)
THUMPER : 8:10 I met brad & company 8:10am at the #18 Dixieland
Bar & Grill where he was searching for the hunting liscences.
He had around 5 mission escorts with him and they abandon the mission
and return to base. I continue searching but to no avail. I plug 3
ref for info, but they didnt have any info to offer. No sign of any
enemy players on the field
THUMPER : 8:30am : MISSION : Blow the MAN's Base. Mission complete.
Around 30 ALIENS and 30 CLAP blew the MAN's and then the REDNECK's
bases which were barely defended. By 8:45am there were no bad guys
on the field and only 20 at the insertion point. It seems they slept
in too. Welcome to 24 hour games boys.

THUMPER : Around 10:00am one of the LETHAL LIZARDs says he was
told by a SC ROADKILL member with a purple and silver Sniper II
to attack the ALIEN's base and blow it up. And he did and came running
back with a box of Cheatos and brick of hash (props). Our base goes
on high alert, and BAMBUSKI and I quickly confer. I grab the props,
KEITH and BRIAN and we wander weapons cold to the ALIEN'S and appologise
saying it was a MAN player disquised as a CLAP player and we returned
the props. It took around 20 minutes to get everyones nerves in
check as the two based were within 200' of each other. We are very
grateful to the ALIENS for their understanding in this matter. And
for the record - We don't know who authorized the attack, but we
do know the LETHAL LIZARDS were the attackers. I suspect Billy wanted
to get us to fight, but I can't connect how it got started.
DEEP : 10:00am Sunday morning. "While I was in the command
shack Ralph asked if there were any green team out behind our base.
I told him we did not have any players back there. He had Yolanda
stay at the base and took a couple of base defenders with him. Within
two minutes he had flushed out two snipers that were trying to creep
up and get a general assasination. Good job Ralph. No green casualties
and two rather humiliated red snipers taking the long walk home."
THUMPER : 11:00 MISSION : "everyone back to base" - and
Keith and I were able to actually pull every CLAP player back to
base. The ALIEN's were not far behind, with the MAN and REDNECKS
eventually following suite. It took them an extra 25 minutes to
propogate the general fall back mission orders. That aught to tell
you something.
THUMPER : 11:30 MISSION: 100 points for every "SPINNER"
pointing to your colors and FREE FOR ALL at 11:45. Im not going
into what we did here as it might give away too many ideas, but
let just say we increased the CLAP's lead from 600 at 8:00am
to 1600 by 12:00pm -- not to bad for our first time on this
DIRT. Wayne used to mess with us bad when we started rolling. It
was nice for once to have the guy who was running to play straight
with us. Thanks Billy for a great time. All of the speedball in
the woods stuff wasn't really our style, but we had lots of fun
anyway. Im not sure we will be back for the next free finale, but
we will be back for some of the smaller games. I love your field,
and your staff is excellent. The players were straight up and the
story line was very cool. Congratulations on a great "opening
free finale" and I'm proud SC ROADKILL could be there to help
set the standard.

CLOSING
|
We walk with Sportsmanship award from the Aliens to SC Roadkill
(we let Brian recieve the award). Bambi also gave Brian the Sportmanship
award. She gave BAMBUSKI the VALOR award. She gave Northsiders MVT
saying there were on every mission. And she gives Curtis on WILDCARDS
MVP. And the Wild Cards are very good, tight knit team. Every one
of the CLAP seemed mission oriented and willing to help deliver.
Hats off to all for a solid TEAM effort.

Billy reported the CLAP was ahead at day break by 600 points
and later won the 4 team war by 1600 points.
My C&C staff reports
- Saturday DAY - all mission completed, with the last 3 being
general lead.
- Saturday PM - 6 out of 7 compleetd, 4 general lead.
- Sunday 5 out of 6 completed, all general lead. (The 8:00am mission
was buster)
- Our base was never blown and only attacked once.
- Our pact with the Aliens was Tested but never blown.
- Bambi was on the field 12-6 saturday, and let us run the show.
Thanks Bambi - Glad to help out.
- I asked for the score, but it aint coming out. Billy made those
the know hold it close... Now you know why.
Thumper Out.

From Joe V : Thump- just some more info for the post-action with
some Romeo perspective.
As the initial bell rang all of Romeo sprinted (Even Sticky and
I) to a woodland position between the area we called the Bonecrusher
and the Nam. Once we were in place reinforcements from other squads
and other teams came streaming in. I would say that by all most
accounts the battle for tactical control of the field was over in
about ten minutes. It was never lost.
I just wanted to throw in my account of some other things that
went down Saturday. Our second or third mission was to capture and
hold the Dairy Queen for 30 minutes. We were undermanned and had
assistance from some floaters and walk-ons. With about five minutes
left, we were being wore down and would have been overrun if not
for some excellent maneuvering by Sticky and Archie from Paintball
Charleston. Those guys snuck around The Man's left and came running
across the road into his flank, taking out 10 or eleven players.
Awesome job....
I believe Romeo was involved in all but two or three mission until
nightfall in either a lead or support role. We had great support.
One Sunday at about 10:30, Sticky once again made everyone stop
and watch as he charged into the village area and ran across open
field and bunker tagged two hapless Rednecks with his pump. It looked
like a freight train running into a wall. Everyone stopped firing
to watch the carnage..
Joker, Timmy and some of the guys from Triggertyme led the assault
on The Man's base with a lot of Roadkill support. It was good to
watch us work so well together. We made an unstoppable force when
together!
Thump - I also wanted to ask how much you know about Archie from
PC. He is an awesome player and a great sportsman. I am wondering
if he has any desire to become Roadkill.

By Dead Eye -- Archie -- Associate. I like Archie's ability to
be a flexible team player. Example:
During FF Romeo was tasked with holding the Dairy Queen. Brain
waspulling back (out of ammo I think), from the previous mission.
He mentioned if we don't secure our right flank we'll be over run.
He also mentioned it would be a good opportunity to out flank them
and to take Archie with me. I turned and yes Archie seemed like
the only other squad member there at the time was not wide eyed
in wonder at the ass beating we where about to take.
I grabbed Archie and headed for our right flank we rallied several
other players who were pulling back. We waited for the main body
of the other team to move past us by (we where hiding), then we
crossed the round, I turned around only to see Archie and one other
person (out of about eight players) had followed me.
The three of us walked through our opponent's flank and secured
the field in front of Dairy Queen giving us our points. It was a
great move and I could NOT have done it without Archie's help Thanks
Archie.
