S.C. Roadkill - The Black Book

We are not diplomats. A peaceful negotiation has failed, now we are going to war.
He who is prepared will defeat he who is not. While recreational paintball, and tournament paintball battles are won through effective use of a few basic tactics, scenario paintball wars are won through deployment of strategic principles.

But where as war is little more that a series of battles...

Strategy is assessment, followed by planning, following by action with fluid adaptation and deception..

Roadkill operates on a few guiding strategic principles. These are:

Self Control and Discipline

I feel like we are being seduced by the dark side on this topic. The whole sport is "shooters".
Every magazine talks about electro-pneumatic guns, speed tubes, loud camouflage, hyper-ball, tournaments. You'll try it. You'll buy it. A year later you'll get bored with it, and then you'll see Knife, Eddie or me drop that shooter with a single shot to the back while our bait has them facing the wrong way. It works, and it doesn't get old. You see, when you drop a guy like that, you take his pride.

It takes discipline and personal self control to not shoot. It takes patience to walk up to your foe, and opposed to just opening up.

Examples: Would you please go walk the flag line? Would you sweep out the back of the field? Could you try to sneak into their base, and steal there booty? Would you hold this objective for 45 minutes (when no one is likely to come?). These are the simple questions that win wars.

Team Spirit
This needs work. Wings, beer, and paintball stories. We have been known to loose a few point on Saturday nights. Marriage of a player always has an impact. When we first started, I think we were are single. Now? I think tumor may be the last resident bachelor. The point is single folks behave differently. Married guys do not get out as much. When we do, we turn to each other for a little R&R. We have been playing scenario ball for 10 years now. The team morphs, ages, even splinters, but still here. We have to be patient with each other's life changes. I guess that's another one of those discipline things.

Recruiting
S.C. Roadkill is always looking for exceptional players. We rule out the whiners, shooters, the undisciplined. We look for stealth/field craft, team skills, leadership skills, and specialty skills. From what you have already read, it takes a hodgepodge of talent to be a successful scenario team, and expect to win wars.

Operation Demoralization

Setting : Scenario
Operators: One small team, 3 squad leaders, 3 medics, and the rest of our army.
Purpose : To demoralize the enemy, and contain them.
Risk : Letting them get through and The field staff allowing new enemy insertion points.

We ran this during the last two scenarios to great effect.
If we lost our base and cant run missions, or no new missions are coming in, then we consider it. It is best to save this for late in the game. It takes a whole army to pull it off.

Here is how it works.

Pull everybody. Sweep the field. Keep sweeping using the mob momentum to drive and kill everything in its path. Our general and XO are to send all new insertions to re-enforce the line. Several Roadkill squad leaders place on each end of the line, and one in the middle. If we have medics, each squad leader gets one. The squad leaders job is to manage the line. Now here is the rub.

If we do not run them off of the field, the field staffers have a harder time letting them reinsert behind enemy lines.

Once the line is well established and the enemy is contained in their base, we sweep the field with comms, flip flags, run missions, and repeat. Do this with very small groups. Send every one else back to the line.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If we accidentally run them off the field, back the line up, and let them back on the field. Otherwise the staff will give them a new insertion point, like our base. We call this "being courteous".

Constantly remind the players in your area to conserve paint. Squad leaders your orders are to manage the line and do not get shot.

Joe, Skeeter, Tank, Grendle: I will need your help in keeping this line in place, and disciplined.

Ill worry about the backfield.
