Empower the squads
I know from first hand experience, cross fire is deadly in the hands of a few guys to know how to use it. It gets a little eerie when this becomes second nature. When they learn to bait and trap, castle, fake fall back, they will kill you. When formulating a battle plan, let these guys stick together and do what they do well.

Manage the Chain of Command
Who is in charge? We may tell you the general, but in actuality, I am. I speak through my XOs.
Through them I speak to the general. Think operation Phoenix. Leave nothing to chance about our chain of command. It is us. We are it. Any and all of our generals critical information goes directly to us, and we will take it from there.

Manage the Event Coordinators
Who is in charge of the event? Well it aint us, or is it? Games masters are known to alter rules, move teams from side to side, plant spies, blow bases, send in easy missions, flip flags at night. They think we are stupid. Inside intelligence is imperative. The question is: If they change stuff on you, how do you react? What is your contingency plan? Have some negotiation elements available with the field coordinator.

Manage the walk-ons
Rookies and shooters walk the land looking for a fight. Many times this is counter productive. That is where "leading from the front" comes in. What is the plan? Are these guys on our team working on that plan? If not, how can I persuade them? All of road kill is responsible for helping with is. If you see some bozos wandering around, invite them to join you. Once there, think on your feet.
